At the age of 12 Tim is already the average colonial boy, loving his parents, and admiring his brother. He obeys his parents and does his chores without complain. By the end of the book he is fully mature and headstrong like his brother. In My Brother Sam is Dead Tim Meeker learns that glory is an illusion because he witnesses first hand how values degenerate during war.

Sam is always seeking glory in daily life. Tim admires Sam, but slowly respects him less and less throughout the book, mainly because of the crimes and war influenced things he does. Then finally realizes glory is an illusion. He realizes this when Father dies, when Sam is executed, and when he witnesses deaths. A When Sam was young he was always looking for ways to score “telling points” he joined the debate team showed off to Tim. Sam stayed a headstrong boy all through the book and never lost his dreams of glory.

Time saw, in many ways, how values degenerate during war. The major tipping point was when he witnessed the decapitation of Ned the slave. He was so disgusted that he vomited on himself and was basically scarred for life. Another time was when he saw the messenger get shot and left to die. He realized that the longer a solider is in a war the easier it becomes to kill a man and thinking nothing of it.

World Geography

Scandinavian countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland are all located in northwestern Europe. Scandinavian countries have unique physical geography because of volcanoes and glaciers.

Some of the unique features include: the Norwegian Fjords (which is a long, narrow, deep inlet of the sea between high cliffs.), the Scandinavian Mountains, which rise about 8,000 feet, and the archipelagos of Sweden and Norway.

They are many different types of glaciers, and these glaciers are responsible for creating fjords and valleys. Iceland has over 100 volcanoes and there are thousands more in northwestern Europe. Most civilians harness the volcano’s power in geothermal plants. Volcanoes also make new land in Iceland and Finland.

They used movement to llamas to transport heavy loads, the llama was a most important animal. The llama was used for transportation. It provided the Incas with wool and food. They also used bridges made of straw or vines to cross deep gorges or canyons. Incan roadrunners carried orders and news from place to place. They were the mailmen of the Incan Empire.

The Incan Empire was located on the western side of South America. It was divided into three regions - mountains, jungle, and desert. The major landforms in these regions are: the Andes Mountains, Amazon Jungle, and the Coastal Desert.

For farming they carved steps of flat land up the side of a mountain to create flat land for farming. The terraces also helped to keep rainwater running off. They reduced erosion. They main crop was maize and potatoes. They even used corn in special ceremonies.

The Sapa Inca ruled everything in Incan society. He made laws and was referred to as a god. The common people had no freedom. They could not own or run a business. They could not own luxury goods. The only items common people could have in their homes were things they needed to do their job. Most were farmers, but some were skilled artisans.
