They used movement to llamas to transport heavy loads, the llama was a most important animal. The llama was used for transportation. It provided the Incas with wool and food. They also used bridges made of straw or vines to cross deep gorges or canyons. Incan roadrunners carried orders and news from place to place. They were the mailmen of the Incan Empire.

The Incan Empire was located on the western side of South America. It was divided into three regions - mountains, jungle, and desert. The major landforms in these regions are: the Andes Mountains, Amazon Jungle, and the Coastal Desert.

For farming they carved steps of flat land up the side of a mountain to create flat land for farming. The terraces also helped to keep rainwater running off. They reduced erosion. They main crop was maize and potatoes. They even used corn in special ceremonies.

The Sapa Inca ruled everything in Incan society. He made laws and was referred to as a god. The common people had no freedom. They could not own or run a business. They could not own luxury goods. The only items common people could have in their homes were things they needed to do their job. Most were farmers, but some were skilled artisans.
